Abstract

A clean, healthy, and comfortable school environment is one of the supporting factors for the creation of an effective learning process. The problem of waste in the school environment not only has an impact on cleanliness and comfort, but also shows the importance of student involvement in the management of the school environment. This study aims to analyze the application of school waste banks as an effort to manage waste, improve the cleanliness and comfort of the school environment, and form student awareness of waste that has utility and economic value. This research uses a qualitative approach with the library research method through the study of various literature sources relevant to waste management and the implementation of waste banks in the school environment. The results of the study show that school waste banks can be an alternative to waste management that actively involves students as subjects in maintaining the cleanliness of the environment. Its implementation can be carried out through several stages, namely facilitation, organization, education, documentation, coordination, and the granting of royalties or rewards for student participation. The findings of the study confirm that the success of school waste banks is not only determined by the availability of facilities, but also by continuous education, clear division of roles, coordination between school residents, and a reward system that can encourage student participation. Therefore, schools are recommended to implement waste banks in a structured and sustainable manner by placing students as the main actors, supported by school policies, waste sorting facilities, environmental education, and transparent management and reward mechanisms. The implementation is expected to improve the cleanliness and comfort of schools while fostering an active, creative, innovative, and environmentally caring attitude in students.
