Publication Ethics

Cakrawala: Journal of Religious Studies and Global Society is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. Our editorial and publishing processes adhere to strict ethical guidelines to ensure the credibility, integrity, and quality of the research we publish. We expect all individuals involved in the publication process—including authors, reviewers, editors, and publishers—to abide by these ethical standards.

1. Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their submissions are original, and must properly attribute and cite any sources or ideas that are not their own. Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited.
  • Data Accuracy: Authors must present an accurate account of their research. Falsification or manipulation of research data is considered unethical.
  • Multiple Submissions: Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. Manuscripts under consideration for publication should not have been previously published elsewhere.
  • Authorship: All individuals who have made a significant contribution to the research should be listed as co-authors. Authors should ensure that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript before submission.
  • Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that may influence the research or interpretation of the findings.

2. Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents. They should not disclose or discuss manuscripts with anyone outside of the peer-review process.
  • Impartiality and Objectivity: Reviewers should evaluate manuscripts based on their academic merit and scientific value, without bias or discrimination. Personal criticism of authors is not acceptable.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should disclose any conflicts of interest related to the manuscript. If a conflict exists, reviewers should recuse themselves from the review process.
  • Timeliness: Reviewers should complete the review process within the designated time frame. If they are unable to provide a timely review, they should inform the editor and withdraw from the review process.

3. Ethical Responsibilities of Editors

  • Editorial Decision-Making: Editors are responsible for making impartial decisions regarding the publication of manuscripts based on the scientific merit, significance, and relevance to the journal's scope. Editorial decisions should be based on objective criteria, and editors must ensure that manuscripts are reviewed by qualified and unbiased reviewers.
  • Confidentiality: Editors must maintain confidentiality regarding the content of submitted manuscripts and must not disclose any information about the manuscript to third parties.
  • Conflict of Interest: Editors should recuse themselves from decision-making if they have a personal or financial conflict of interest with the authors or the subject matter of the manuscript.
  • Transparency and Fairness: Editors should ensure transparency in the publication process, including clear communication with authors and reviewers. Any suspected misconduct, such as plagiarism or data manipulation, should be thoroughly investigated and addressed.

4. Ethical Responsibilities of Publishers

  • Support for Ethical Standards: The publisher supports the integrity of the academic publishing process by upholding ethical standards, ensuring the proper conduct of all parties involved, and promoting transparency and accountability throughout the process.
  • Publication Malpractice: In the event of unethical conduct (such as plagiarism, data fabrication, or authorship disputes), the publisher will take appropriate measures to address the issue, including retracting the paper if necessary and issuing corrections or apologies.
  • Transparency and Accountability: The publisher ensures that all policies related to publication, ethics, and conflict resolution are clearly outlined and made accessible to all contributors, including authors, reviewers, and readers.

5. Handling of Ethical Violations

  • In cases of suspected ethical violations, including plagiarism, data falsification, or conflicts of interest, the editor will conduct a thorough investigation. Authors found to have committed serious ethical violations may face sanctions, including retraction of published papers or prohibition from submitting to the journal in the future.
  • If a manuscript is found to have been published based on fraudulent or plagiarized data, the journal will issue a retraction and take corrective actions to maintain the journal's integrity.

6. Appeals and Complaints

  • Authors or reviewers who wish to appeal a decision or file a complaint may do so by contacting the editorial board in writing. The editorial board will review the appeal or complaint and take appropriate actions based on the findings.

7. Ethical Use of Published Material

  • Authors and readers are encouraged to properly cite the works published in Cakrawala: Journal of Religious Studies and Global Society. Copyright infringement, including the unauthorized use or reproduction of published material, is strictly prohibited.
